SLOPESTYLE SNOWBOARDERS TO COMPETE FOR $5000 IN CASH AND PRIZING

WHISTLER, BC, MARCH 26, 2012 - Dubbed as Canada's longest running snowboard competition, the Showcase Showdown returns to Whistler Blackcomb Saturday March 31, 2012. This will mark the event's 15th consecutive year running where riders get a crack at competing for $5000 cash, plus prizes from Sandbox and DAKINE and of course bragging rights.

The Showcase Showdown is a favorite among Whistler locals as riders entertain with big air and massive tricks for the legions of Showcase Snowboard supporters. This year Whistler Blackcomb is bringing the event back to the base of Whistler Mountain, with prime event viewing from the GLC patio and Skiers Plaza. Practice and qualifying rounds will run from 12pm - 4pm and finals will go from 5pm - 6pm.

This year the event will be 80's inspired, with a skate themed slopestyle course that will start with a 40' hip channel jump, flowing into a spine box, followed by a close out rail feature.

"Showcase Showdown is a really fun event for the community and a fantastic opportunity to check out local and international talent performing at their best", said Graham Turner, Event Organizer. "I'm stoked to see the Showdown back in the Valley. After 15 years we have the recipe for a super fun day that includes incredible riding, après and a killer after party."

In addition to the main event, riders will get access to the Vans Riders Waffle Breakfast & Forum Double Dog BBQ for some hot eats. If a day full of rodeo flips and tail grabs isn't enough, supporters and riders are invited to Merlin's for the official after party sponsored by Burton, following the event.

This year's event sponsors include Burton, Forum, Spy, Vans, Ride, Bonfire, 32, and Quiksilver. Showcase Showdown partners include Red Bull, Kokanee, Zero Ceiling, Merlin's Bar & Grill, Garibaldi Lift Company and Whistler Blackcomb Parks.
